About play.expert

Last updated

play.expert is a register of regulated online gambling markets. It records which operators hold a registration with the regulator in each market we cover, which of them are actually open to players, and the date we last checked.

What this is for

Regulated markets produce a genuinely confusing situation for anyone trying to use them. A regulator publishes a register in one format, operators launch and withdraw on their own timetables, and the sites that sit in between are mostly built to sell a sign-up rather than to describe a market. The result is that a straightforward question — which of these companies is actually registered here, and which of them can I use today — is oddly hard to answer.

This site answers that question and stops.

What we cover

We cover markets with a real regulator and a published register, because those are the markets where the question has an answer that can be checked. A market appears here when we can read its regulator's record, not when it becomes commercially interesting.

What we are not

We are not a gambling operator. We do not accept wagers, hold player funds, or run games.

We are not a review site in the usual sense. There are no scores, no rankings we invented, and no accounts of nights we did not have.

We are not free of commercial interest, and we do not pretend to be. Some of the operators listed here pay us commission when a reader opens an account. How that works, and what it explicitly does not affect, is set out in How we make money.

Gambling is not a way to make money

Nothing on this site is advice to gamble. The register exists so that people who have already decided to are choosing between companies that are accountable to a regulator rather than ones that are not. If gambling has stopped being something you do for fun, the support resources on this site are free, confidential and available at any hour.
